Loyal Canberra Raiders supporter, all-round sports fan and proud grandfather Aubrey Champs joined the Delta team as Dispatch Manager about two years ago. Soon after, he took on the role of Operations Manager, overseeing production and packing of all Delta’s orders.
“I manage 20 staff as well as all the machines and equipment, and we produce anywhere between 1600 to 1800 metres of panels each day,” Aub said.
“My focus is on customer service and quality and I like to run a ‘smooth ship’. Everyone in the team knows their job but is also versatile enough to swap jobs if someone is away, so we can keep things moving.”
A lot has changed in the time Aub has been at Delta.
“In the past 12 months we have installed a new machine dedicated to producing wall panels,” he explained. “These machines have the capacity to produce panels up to 19 metres long – it took us a few days to configure the machine but we’ve well and truly mastered it now.
“I’ve also been involved in testing new fireproof styrene panels, which was fascinating, given the high demand for fireproof panels in the current market.”
Now his team is gearing up for Delta’s busiest time of year, in the lead up to Christmas.
“The weather starts warming up and everyone decides they want a new patio to host Christmas lunch outdoors, so we’ve seen a big spike in roofing panel orders over the past few months,” he said.
“We’ve had the machines going from 6am each day and put on extra staff in the packing team to ensure we get the orders ready for delivery or collection on time.”
While his footy team didn’t bring home the silverware this season, Aub said he was on a winning side at Delta.
“It’s a great bunch of people to work with and great to see the company moving ahead in leaps and bounds.”
